Fool the People, Fool the People, Fool the People!

We’ve had 3 years of economic decline, according to our Central Bank Governor. And our Minister of Finance, who used to be a Central Bank Governor at a time, is insisting that there is no slump. In fact  Williams is saying that our situation is worse than the UK (which is currently in a recession, mind you) in this Guardian comment:

“Our situation is even more serious, in that we have had negative growth for three years. That’s the issue. It’s not so much the quarterly variations.

“We have had negative growth for three years and that’s our challenge: How do we get out of that slump?” Williams said the figures show in the fourth quarter of last year the economy declined by 2.6 per cent when compared with the same period in 2010 and from all the information the bank had the decline continued into this year’s first quarter.

However, Dookeran, whose chief role now is as stooge for the PP Government and the messenger boy Kamla sends to Parliament ask for more money every 5 months to further supplement their squandermania and overspending, is insisting that there is no slump. So Ewart Williams lie? And if he lie, why he lie? And why can’t you or anyone from your government explain to us how the economy is performing or functioning? dookeran actually said in his speech that our economy was facing what the global economy is facing…..has he seen Greece and Spain recently? Does he know that the US admits it’s in a depression? The worst since the one they faced in the 1930s? Yesterday  international newspapers carried the story that US, European and Asian economies are slowing down. I guess Kamla must have trading partners in worlds we don’t know about that continuing to sustain this economy of ours that not in a slump.

If Europe, Asia and the US are in economic trouble how can Dookeran insist we have no economic problems here when it is plain to see that we do. And in all o f this he goes back to Parliament to request $1.5bn to spend on what? If the economy is not in a slump, based on the info you have that you didn’t share with us, then pray tell Dooks, what you want this supplemental funding for? I see Kamla want $11m more….to pay Vidwattie? I see Cepep need $240m…I see Devant want $50m…where the missing CAL millions? You know what I think Dooks? I think all yuh lining pockets, because to date I see no enervation of the economy, no new projects or plans.

The only programmes the government has in train for labour and employment is CEPEP and Colour Me Orange. That excludes a significant portion of our employable public..unless you sending degreed persons out their to paint stones white and weed the highway.

The alleged investigation into Warnergate is the next lie. wired868.com reporter Lasana Liburd has shown that Insp Totaram Dookie has failed to question many key witnesses and informants related to the bribery allegations, and then they presented a half-assed report to COP Gibbs, who was only to glad to heave a sigh of relief and say Jack was off the hook. In the meantime, while Gibbs and the Police Service make mas with this investigation, we look like asses on the world stage and probably have gone up the corruption list again. It’s the Brits that Warner screwed over folks….none of this is over…not by a long shot.

And PensionGate….what to say about Kamla, Glen Ramadharsingh and PensionGate….anybody remembered when Kamla promised that the senior Citizen Grant would be made into a pension so that no government would be able to interfere with the actual figure senior citizens had to receive? What happened to that promise? Ramadharsingh says “not one cent less”….that sounds like his Guild Campaign Motto in 2002….is he then saying that the senior citizens who now showing checks that $1000 less than what they had become accustomed to receiving lying?

You might be able to fool the people some of the time….but I don’t think you’ll be able to keep them fooled for too much longer. As the economy worsens, crime escalates and your spending and squandermania remains obvious and sickening the people will wake up….and maybe even rise up.

Carry on smartly People’s Panchayat!

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 2yrs, 11 days: Bananas, Pholourie and Cake Sales!

If in May 2010, you felt like I did, that we couldn’t possibly get a government worse than the Manning-led PNM….then you need to read the story of  Emperor Caligula, the successor of  Emperor Tiberius, who after a 2-year period of trying to keep his supporters happy and displaying political inexperience, then descended into a pattern of extravagance, cruelty, perversity and insanity.

The past two weeks have seen the 2015 elections kick off in fine style with the People’s Partnership holding rallies on two islands. In Trinidad the Right Royal Rani  allegedly accounted for all that her government has accomplished in the last two years. That rally is alleged to have cost us TT$9m and the Leader of Government Buffoonery, Rood Boi Moonilal claims that the money was raised through cake and pholourie sales. In case you missed it that’s Roodimonster pissing in your face and calling it rain.

The murder toll is now more than 170…higher than last year’s toll at the same time, and remember we had a State of Emergency from August to December in 2011 that was allegedly successful in reducing the country’s gang problem (all detainees were released uncharged); drug problems (only marijuana was seized) and gun problem (old, rusty guns were dug up in the country’s forests). In April/May 2010 the People’s Partnership had the plan for solving the crime problem in the country, they had said…..to date, 2 years later, no one is any the wiser for what this Crime Plan is…..2 years later we have a Commissioner of Police paid a huge salary and he abuses state funds to rent crop dusters for crime fighting and we don’t know how a crop duster is going to help fight crime…..this same Top Cop also overseers probes into allegedly corrupt Government Ministers like Jack Warner. And though there is an overwhelming amount of evidence and witnesses who claim Warner was involved in a Fifa bribing scandal, the Police Service under Gibb’s stewardship can’t find any evidence against Warner….Indeed even though both the Leader of the Opposition and the DPP have told the Police Service to look at Customs and Excise Laws, Inspector Totaram Dookie, who is leading the investigation hasn’t managed to come up with a thing….even though Warner had more US dollars in cash at a hotel in Trinidad than is legally allowed to any citizen of the country to have….but I am not a Police Officer, experienced investigator or Top Cop….so what I know? And in case you missed it the investigation into Warner is Gibbs and Totaram Dookie pissing in our faces and calling it rain in a Banana Republic!

This morning I see that the same government who decried CEPEP….the same government that accused the PNM of using CEPEP to keep black people in a state of dependency and need…the same government that accused the PNM of using CEPEP as a tool for squandermania….the same Government that could list for you how many hospital beds could have been built, roads repaired, houses completed, children educated, farmers compensated, how much medication could be bought with the money wasted on CEPEP has just overrun the annual CEPEP budget, and now needs to add $240m more…..Under the People’s Partnership we now have the largest CEPEP budget EVER! I beginning to see KAMLA and SQUANDERMANIA in the same sentence.

Now, I need to deviate a little. This is a country where people love their ethnic stereotypes. And partying plenty and living off CEPEP are two alleged ethnic traits, if you think I lying go read any Guardian article by Raymond Ramcharitar (and his analysis is ALWAYS spot on)….I’m beginning to see that love of fete and all things CEPEP have nothing to do with ethnicity and everything to do with culture, goals and ambition!  So, I’m waiting to see what Ramcharitar’s take will be on this.

PP supporters, instead of getting pissed over my blog posts should start asking their party of choice where is the change they asked for and ask their party to stop lying to the country, stop abusing the treasury and develop some standards!

The PM has the task of reconfiguring the Cabinet ahead of her and I am saying immediately that Devant Maharaj and Tim Goopeesingh have to be moved or fired. The missing CAL $$$$ is a huge issue and Devant has proven to be the most useless Minister of Transport ever. Time will tell if the PM will shift him around or fire him….what I do know is that Devant needs to go. Neither he nor his common sense has performed. I’m sure you heard that he “misspoke” about the CAL board approving the lease of the Prado for chairman Moonan…no one knows about approving any Prado for Moonan.

Tim Goopeesingh has brought his contempt of the teaching service into his tenure as Minister of Education. Goopeesingh reminds me of the average Trinidadian, who willing to have school function as a glorified day care for his/her child, but is deeply contemptuous of the job of teaching, and teachers in general and probably blames teachers for all that is wrong in the society. It shows in his attitude towards his job. It shows in his speeches. Goopeesingh is antagonising the teaching force with his high handed attitude and sooner or later he is going to cause teachers to lash out. The last thing Kamla needs is TTUTA to shut down the country. People could deal with TCL and OWTU strikes…but you see when they have no kindergarten to send their teenagers to when they day come…..well!

John Sandy also needs to be fired…but I am hearing the replacement is Jack Warner, and I hope that’s a bad joke, because Warner, with so many allegations of fraud and corruption hanging over his head in a sane world would have been removed from the government already, not put in charge of a country’s safety….but this is the People’s Partnership where neither Kamla, Prakash, Jack, Daaga nor Abdullah have any principles!

Things heating up in Tobago. This government knows that unless it ship in half of Caroni into Tobago and gerrymander voting lists they done loss the THA Elections to Orville London’s PNM. So they will bully London, audit accounts, find nothing and continue to subtly threaten Tobagonians…..foolish move Kamla…who are your advisers????

It’s June folks….Labour Day coming up…I can’t wait to see the show Roget has in store for us!

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 2yrs, 8dys: Dropping the Ball

There is a lot to rant about and be vex about these days. So let me try and be systematic about what is irking me.

Complaints about the media and the calibre of media in Trinidad is not anything new. In fact I have on occasion raised the issue with people in the media: reporters and editors. The usual position of course is to defend and explain. I have yet to see a situation wherein they’ve defended, explained and then improved. And many times what has been defended, in my opinion, was pretty indefensible stuff….but if it keeps them warm at night who is me to argue.
In the last 6 months my source for news has been the TnT Mirror, I95.5 and wired868.com.   I have noticed too that the three major dailies: The Express, Guardian and Newsday, that are given pride of place in people’s minds as being more truthful, balanced and valid, are often playing catch up with the Mirror; and often their major headlines tend to be stories run by the Mirror weeks before. A good case in point is this Sunday’s lead story in the Express on Rabindra Moonan’s new ride….that was a 2 week old Express story.

Since the Jack Warner/FIFA Scandals have begun the only website worth checking for valid and researched information is Lasana Liburd’s wired868. To date not one daily newspaper’s sports’ section has made an effort to find out who owns the Centre of Excellence and when the PSC sent them the 2 paragraph press release that stated Warner was no longer being investigated, not a newspaper or media house made the effort to contact the DPP for comment. It was only when CANA’s reporter Richard Lord questioned the DPP that the mark buss that the investigation by the police…headed by Inspector Totaram Dookie was inadequate, and the DPP indicated that it was inadequate and then advised them to examine Customs and Excise laws….COP Dwayne Gibbs took it upon himself to re-analyse the DPP’s letter and to misinform the Police Service. When I saw the CANA news report I thought for certain the media would have a complete field day with the issue. I expected to see the PSC questioned about their media release, Dwayne Gibbs questioned about his interpretation of the DPP’s statement and his subsequent dropping of the investigation  against Warner. I expected to see an interview with Totaram Dookie asking him who he questioned for his investigation and how he arrived at the information he sent to the DPP. I expected to see an interview with Warner asking him how he felt about the DPP’s actual comments…..I expected to damn much.

Instead, to date the only investigative report done on Warner, his corruption, his relationship with FIFA, and his possible fraudulent acts has been done by Lasana Liburd….one man….whereas three media houses with an arsenal of reporters at their disposal have done fuck all.

I’d like to take a minute to thank Mr Liburd for making the effort at keeping us in cyberland informed….unfortunately people with no access to internet won’t know the half that the print and visual media refuse to tell about Warner…and maybe that’s why so many people are still blindly endorsing him as a possible Minister of National Security!

I guess at this point I should also say kudos to the team at the Mirror. I wish the articles carried more weight to them at times; but at least they keep me aware of what else is going on that mainstream media refuses to follow.

And don’t get me started on the non-story that was the Sunday Guardian‘s frontpage. The entire medical fraternity was probably choking with laughter on Sunday at the premise that it was a PNM vs UNC political issue….when it was actually more a UNC vs UNC issue with various members of an RHA along with the Minister of Health  stepping on each other’s turf and toes….if you read the story about President Max Richard’s daughter -in-law being denied a management position at a hospital and check between the lines and see that Fuad Khan and Colin Bissessar (note the last name) at odds with each other on a particular staffing choice you’ll see it has nothing to do with PNM at all…..one wonders what inspired the Guardian to run with this story?

Then came the story about the pension/NIS issues….and I had to wait for Keith Rowley to post a note about it today to sum up what was faulty about the reduction in senior citizens pension. Since the news broke about the change in pension I kept saying, “but during the budget, didn’t they say it would be linked to NIS?”  Then why were so many people complaining and saying the government had promised them a pension of $3000.00. Then Rowley’s comments today pointed out the campaign promise that had been made by the PP in 2010, and how subsequent to their election victory they began to backpedal on their promise. A promise that I had forgotten about until the FaceBook Note reminded me of it. Where Prakash and his Principles right about now? Mum again?

That this government feels confident enough to play with the little pittance that pensioners get tells me they are either stupid or have testicles of brass! They can’t be interested in a second term in office and angering public servants AND pensioners?

Both Kamla and Moonilal drop the ball bad this week too. Kamla, Kamla, Kamla….I beginning to think you might have an alcohol problem in truth…only someone who on some kind of substance would have treated those protesters in Debe so. No serious leader who interested in a second term in office ill-treats its support base in such a way. Indian women came out and voted for you in droves in May 2010….when you can treat the core of your support base like shit under your shoe, what do you really leave for your non-supporters to think and say?

And before Moonilal learn to hush his mouth and curtail his buffoonery he gets up in Parliament and labels what the protesters did “In Poor Taste”. No Moonilal, it is you, with your asinine behaviour in our Parliament, coupled with the poor judgement and leadership of your government that is in poor taste. You, Kamla and the entire deck of fools remain a class-less act!

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 23mts, 17dys: The Delinquent Mother

The National Mother. Photo courtesy Jyoti Communications website.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. A day that I associate with anyone, regardless of gender, who nurtures, rears, and gives care to a child. And while I thought about the men and women that have functioned as mothers in my life, I thought too about the people in charge of our government and in fact our country.

Let’s start with the National Mother and Grandmother, who, I am sure, considers herself to be a Mothering Worker!

VS Naipaul wrote a story called Maternal Instinct in his highly satirical and highly acclaimed novel Miguel Street. In it, Laura, the heroine, was a women with many children fathered by many men.

There are days I get the impression the National Mother had the country with several Child Fathers or Baby Daddies, hence the reason  the buck passing can never end with her. She doesn’t answer questions of national concern, it’s always one of the men, even when the questions are about issues that are directly linked to her, like her sister Vidwattie Newton.

Between January to May this country like it get caught in an undertow at Maracas Bay and every time we stand up to ketch weself a next wave of nonsense lick us down. In fact, I daresay that since The Keith’s Motion of No Confidence this govt has been mired in bacchanal after bacchanal, conflict after conflict… and the men who the National Mother keeps hiding behind are abusing her offspring and Kamla, typical of the mother who turns a blind eye to the abuse of her children because “the man helping out” remains silent.

Tell me on what issue has the National Mother actually spoken out on or taken a leadership role on?

Dwayne Gibbs rented a plane for $.9m, money that he had no right to use or disburse, tell me what has become of that and why, the PM hasn’t insisted that the AG put his foot down where that probe and Gibbs’ Commissionership is concerned? She is after all the head of the National Security Council so this should be an issue that concerns her and concerns her deeply. What the Crop Duster rental told us was that this government, led by Persad-Bissessar, didn’t have a crime plan in place, didn’t know procedure and protocol and were quite happy with public officials abusing public funds without being held accountable. This impression of the National Mother and her heads of household haven’t changed.

The Minister with common sense in spades!

Let’s look at Devant Maharaj, who reminds me of the surrepitiously lecherous uncle. You know, the one who always wants to hold you in that uncomfortable position on his lap for an inordinate length of time….riiiiiight! There have been a number of shitstorm clouds hovering over Maharaj’s tenure as  Minister of Transport, none more ominous than Caribbean Airlines Limited. Devant has been involved in misstep after misstep with CAL: under him a financially crippled CAL announced a profit of $200m ( a figure I was immediately sceptical about and the PP die hards called my scepticism racism); under Devant, CAL donated US$5m to the PM’s Life Fund; under Devant, previous CAL chairmen have been accused of having no common sense when it came to managing an airline; under Devant the PTSC has been accused of running a courier service for high priced prostitutes, and it is alleged that a member of the PTSC Board is running the ring…investigations still being conducted.  These are just a handful of the issues plaguing Devant; but by the 3rd or 4th complaint about Uncle Devant, shouldn’t Kamla…as mother and leader have started to ask some pointed questions herself? How exactly did she let it slide when he accused past chairmen of having no commonsense? How exactly has she managed to ignore the fact that mismanagement of CAL has happened under her government’s watch. Arthur Lok Jack, a former CAL Chairman who (according to Devant) lacked common sense, good frig up the government last week when he revealed that  more than US$100m that his board had left intact at the end of his tenure in June 2010 was now missing. A former board member, Allan Clovis, corroborated Lok Jack’s statement. Now Devant is calling for a report on the missing millions and I guess we should believe that he doesn’t know what’s going on with the airline under his purview, and further to that, that Rabindranath Moonan, who was appointed chairman because he possessed common sense by the tonne, also knows nothing about the missing millions? And in all of this the PM is silent and invisible. This isn’t buses and cars….this is the national airline, something that is crucial not just to Trinidad and Tobago but to the wider Caribbean….and not one word from the National Mother….maybe if we gave her a fleet of CAL jets to aid her constant travel she’d have more to say.

Prakash Ramadhar is another parent in this partnership who has me concerned. Most voters in 2010 had hoped that the COP would be the partner that maintained reason, honour, integrity and credibility in this political marriage. In short, we hoped the COP would be the sort of parent we could run to for sane judgement in a time of crisis. Yet we have the COP supporting the UNC in all kinds of questionable decisions Reshmi, SoE, Vidwattie…notice the rhyme scheme), but then getting their panties tied up in knots over a Mayorship.  Prakash has turned out to be just as wobbly and weak a leader as Winston Dookeran. He blows hot and cold at the same time and seems prone to telling either side, whether it’s Kamla or his supporters, precisely what they want to hear. Praksh is precisely the sort of fence sitter that I like to avoid….because he’ll see abuse and justify it as necessary for the child’s  development!

Tim “the tool man”…..i’ll stop there….

Then there’s Tim…..what to not say about Tim Goopeesingh boy? This is a man who spent his previous term in office with the UNC under a fog of suspicion for many things: ghost gang doctors; RHA monies missing; heart and dialysis machines missing and ending up in private hospitals; RHA budget being used to pay for his family’s regular restaurant bills….all of these accusations were being levelled at Goopeesingh, yet Kamla, in her wisdom, as National Mother felt that this is precisely the sort of man she wanted to expose to the nation all over again and this time in education.

He has turned out to be abrasive, aggressive and exclusive in his approach to much of what he is doing at the Ministry. Stakeholders are complaining that they are not a part of the decision making process as regards the SEA exam….a crucial part of our education system. Further, Tim has taken to antagonising teachers now. Openly complaining about perks and benefits that teachers, their union and the Ministry of Education would have collectively agreed on and adding fuel to already tense situations. The latest furore is that the format of the SEA exam is about to change in 2013. 1 year’s notice to change an exam that makes or breaks the future of most children and citizens here. If this transition isn’t handled properly this current government could be damaging the future of the nation’s education system…and I am once again reminded of Kamla’s tenure as Education minister when secondary education for all was instituted and the government she served rushed to rent unventilated buildings to put children in. It was under her tenure as minister that knives, forks and flatware went missing from the ministry and had to be returned.

When the UNC described Kamla as the mother of the nation in 2010, the images conjured was of a responsible caregiver, here to nurture, not boof; encourage, not dictate. Instead the type of mother we have gotten smacks of someone who got pregnant too young. We got a National Mother who more interested in shopping, travelling and dressing up….we got a National mother who lies, abuses state funds and when caught sleeping on the job puts the responsibility on the men around her.

I think we should award Kamla as Delinquent National Mother of the Year! Party hard, grandma….you rock on with yuh bad self!

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 23mts, 1dy: 1st Class Ticket to Hell!

the TnT Mirror's front page story alleging that the PM's sister is not a registered nurse.....smdh!

So, in one afternoon we get three lead stories? Will there be no day that I can log on and be able to say, nothing interesting to report today folks…the government normal.

We’ve got first class sisters, spy vs spy and American gang members hiding in Trinidad….Is this a Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer movie script? Because all we missing is an explosion or car chase in the next 10 seconds.

So, instead of the PM answering her own questions, the Parliamentary Buffoon was deployed once again to answer on her majesty’s behalf. So, let me get the trajectory on this straight….the State visit to India wasn’t paid for by the Indian government as our Government stated (lie 1); the PM did not pay for her sister’s travel expenses out of her own pocket (lie 2) because the Cabinet (made up of good old principled COP members) approved the payments and our tax dollars paid for it; the PM’s sister along with most of her entourage including the relative who carries her luggage, all travelled first class at the State’s expense, not India’s. The majority of the person’s mentioned in the entourage list don’t usually travel first class, but according to Perm Sec Cooper, who beginning to resemble a tick with every defence he makes of this government’s abuse of public funds, Ms Newton’s first class travel status was also Cabinet-approved (you see why Prakash, Roger and Carolyn cyah impress me? What principles?). But then explain to me why Lisa Ghany, Barry Padarath and the baggage handler all had to be in first class? Is so many people it does take to administer medication and help the PM to the ladies room? If so, then why is someone who is obviously so ill and incapacitated in charge of running a government?

And if as the Mirror’s story implies she’s not a registered nurse….then in what capacity is Ms Newton travelling with the PM?

Because the halfway Privy Council announcement didn’t quite distract us from the issue of Kamla’s abuse of State funds to advance the welfare of members of her family (doesn’t this smack of some integrity in public life breach?) Moonilal was forced to pull another trick from his sleeve, which is located at the back of his trousers, and the announcement was that this Government has been spying on us, since December 2010, and there is now a report to prove it. Moonilal is very proud of the report. Did I miss something here folks? Because the report states, according to the Express, that none of the 267 instances of interception was done on the basis of an application to a judge for a warrant to intercept, which is provided for under Section 8 of the Act. This section, however, is used when the interception is for “evidentiary purposes”. Apparently the interceptions were done under a different section of the law that allows for no warrant if the spying is done in the interest of national security and to protect the state’s economic interest and a couple other interesting areas. According to the act, the Chief of Defence Staff, the CoP and the Director of the SSA can make this judgement call……December 2010 was around the time the country was still reeling from the Reshmi Ramnarine, aka call me Shashi Rekma, incident…

And the plot thickens even further, because according to the Trinidad Guardian’s lead story this morning, illegal wiretapping and spying was happening under Basdeo Panday’s government. According to People Resembling Sandy, spying has been happening here without legislation for more than ten years. And de Bas trying to be disingenuous and say he didn’t know about it…..so as head of the National Security Council back in your day….and according to you the meetings were weekly, no one told you about these activities? That’s Insulting!

Now, remind me of something, this isn’t the same government that weep, wail and gnash its teeth when it was in Opposition over Manning spying on the population? Help me out here folks? Is it do as I say, but not as I do with this government? So you mean when Kamla was busy accusing Manning of spying on the government, she had also been part of an administration that had done the same thing….illegally…. without any proper legislation?

Where the PPG fanboys this morning, boy….how all yuh defending this one? Oh, wait, all yuh going to do like Bas and say it was for the good of the country?????

Seriously, can we get any more Orwellian in this state?

People dropping like flies in murders all over the country…the police have resumed their tune of drug-related and gang-related killings, after telling us in December right after the failed SoE (yeah, I said it!) that not all murders were gang-related….because of course then they couldn’t admit that right after a SoE to get rid of gangs, the gangs had resumed their activities.
In fact, if you were to go by SoE PR statistics, there’s no cocaine here, all the guns were confiscated, there are no gang members…..so technically Trinidad and Tobago is a crime-free state with ganja-addicted frozen chicken!

Given then that we have no serious crime here…I can only assume that it also means that we don’t have state abuse of public funds….what we have is Cabinet-approved spending for undocumented things.

We don’t have nepotism…..we have Family Values.

We don’t have credit card abuse…..we have credit card fetishes that go unchecked….and Vernella have to take this country and its Parliment for prize asses by referring to a 2004 THA document as justifcation for her overspending and abuse of the credit card….oh, wait…I keep forgetting that the PPG’s favourite hymn/bhajan/mantra/chorus/verse is the PNM do it too! Blame the PNM, Blame the PNM….

No accountability in this government, drug importation continues unchecked, violence all over the streets, a disgusted, disaffected and traumatised public, public servants being accidentally thrown into St. Anns for their own good, a tight family clique abusing the public purse….No wonder MP Amery Browne saying the MS-13 gang operating in Trinidad…..he watching them infiltrate the Parliament every week!

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 23 months:

In 2005, the current PM, then in Opposition announced that her party, the UNC was not in support of the CCJ and her reason was that there was no ethnic parity. I know it might escape the members of this government….but Indo-Caribbeans do not make up 40 or even 50%  of the Caribbean’s population. The Indian population lucky if it makes up 20% of the Caribbean demographic…yet here in Trinidad every day we have to grapple with an Indo-population that seems to forget that there are many other ethnic groups that exist here. As recently as last year when questioned on making the switch to the CCJ the PM said there was no need to, her government was not in any rush to dump the Privy Council, and every one knew it was because they were afraid of losing investors, as happened to Guyana when they made a similar move.

Yet as of yesterday, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, now Prime Minister, is busily embracing the CCJ, but only for criminal matters and therein lies the problem for many others in the local legal fraternity. This partial move to the CCJ has been described as illegal, unlawful and unworkable by many in the legal fraternity. Former AG John Jeremie is quoted in the Express as saying, ‘in any “criminal case” a constitutional point might arised and be argued. “It is artificial to speak about abolishing the Privy Council for criminal appeals only,” because criminal matters could have a civil dimension, he said. ‘

Another former AG, Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, has weighed in as well on the issue revealing that when he went to London in 1999 the Privy Council was not in support of a piecemeal split, but a total split:  He recalled that when he went to London in 1999 to get the approval of the British Government because the British Government had to decide whether they would keep the civil jurisdiction if the country wanted to do away with the Privy Council as the final court for the criminal jurisdiction. “We were told that they were not prepared to do that”. He said the Privy Council was quite happy to do get rid of the jurisdiction altogether, they were not prepared to accept the phased proposal.”And that was known by the present Prime Minister, because she was a member of the Cabinet” he said.

If both instances citied above are true, that splitting the final courts of appeal will cause problems for Civil and Criminal matters; and further, that the PM knows that the Privy Council won’t support this….why is she proposing this? Because clearly it won’t be a successful proposal.  It makes one wonder how exactly the PM and the AG got their silk in light of the various legal arguments that are flying about.

Meanwhile, the AG is asserting that these comments being made are mischievous and that there is “precedent in the Commonwealth” for a phased withdrawal.

So,  naturally, I have to wonder, like De Bas, if Kamla’s absence from parliament during the revelation of the use of state funds for her travel assistant/nurse sister, and her miraculous appearance to announce a half way move to the CCJ is not really another ploy to distract from her government’s abuses. Because now several things are in train, there is heated debate nationally about whether the nation wants to leave the Privy Council or not, there are cries for a referendum….that a yellow donkey and God face you aint seeing under this government, they are not about serving the people….and public scrutiny of the TT$.9m spent on Ms Vidwattie Newton has now gone to the back burner. The Prime Minister’s claims too that she needs Opposition support on this issue…yet if it is a flawed plan and The Keith decides not to support it in Parliament the UNCOP Govt will be quick to claim that the PNM doesn’t want autonomy….when in truth and in fact the issue will be that the partial move may not be a workable plan. I think Kamla and her small goal team being a bunch of tricksy little orcsessssss on this issue…gollum, gollum!

4 people have been murdered over a 24-hour period…..not a word from the government about their crime plan of late….only 21st century policing from Gibbs….and anyone remember that he didn’t have the authority to rent that $.9m Crop Duster? Whatever happened to that issue? The AG stop probing it? Like he stop probing Jack Warner and the Fifa scandal?

In the business sector issues of race, coupled with unequal pay and corporate crime continue to hamper our economic growth. When you see things like this you wish that the government spent less time trying to muzzle the media and the Opposition, (and making stupid tasteless jokes a la Roodal Moonilal) and focus on actually running the country efficiently….but that would require having a plan that’s broader and more complex than draining the treasury, wouldn’t it?

Crime Clusterf@$l/Political Pantomime 22mts, 27dys: Mums the Word

Anand Ramlogan’s crush on The Keith growing stronger and stronger. Seems every opportunity he gets he levelling law suits at him…yet the AG is short on answers for the population on Calder Hart, Steve & Ish, the probe into that Crop Duster that Gibbs bought, the probe into Jack Warner and the Fifa Affair, and a whole host of other probes…..that is performance!

Dr George Laquis says our state cancer care is disastrous! And after their attempt to cover up RadiationGate a few weeks ago, and this latest suggestion to put an oncology facility in Penal, I have to agree with him….get out of Cancer care….get out of managing Health care period, because you doing a piss poor job! Fund it and find another body to manage it. How is it that a country like Cuba with far fewer resources can have such effective health care and we swimming in oil $$$$ for almost 4 decades and can’t even manage enough beds and medication for our ill????? You won’t get a comment on this from Kamla or Fuad…don’t hold your breath!

An entire family was gunned down in Laventille. The TTPS says they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The murder toll continues to steadily climb. Yet, you notice you don’t hear any government official or member of our National Security Council coming out to speak on it? Last year after a spate of murders over 1 weekend Kamla shut down the country and our rights for 107 days…this year after a spate of murders over the East Weekend and a continued climb in the subsequent weeks there is not one word from the PM, the Minister of National Security, or the COP. Don’t hold your breath on this either.

Keith Rowley has alleged in a press briefing yesterday that spying on the population continues under this administration….again I willing to venture that you won’t hear a word from the PM, the Min of National Security, the new head of the SIA or the National Security Council.

What this government has quietly shown in the last few weeks is that it no longer has to answer to, explain or be accountable to the country.

Imagine Devant Maharaj can come out and say that 5 former chairmen of BWEE/CAL have demonstrated that they had no common sense when running the airline. One of these former chairmen is now the head of the Integrity Commission, appointed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. So Devant Maharaj is actually implying that his government appoints stupid people to run Commissions.
And Kamla…that excellent example of female leadership remains quiet….not one word…never a comment from her…never a correction…not even an apology from her or Devant for the insult he has levied at these men!

Mon Desir residents protesting over the highway and its impact on their homes and environment….Not one word from this government!

Tarouba residents protesting about the deplorable conditions of the houses they have been put in…and is years they writing and complaining….Not one word from this government!

Instead they will hope that the population remains distracted over Ian Alleyne’s arrest and the charges laid against TV6. People holding candle light vigil for Ian Alleyne, when what we need to do is burn some candles for Kamla and her Partnership. They have lost their way….they need some light. Today I going out to a store and buy some candles to burn for this Govt!

I beginning to think DCP Mervyn Richardson is the opening act at Barnum and Bailey’s Circus….imagine the database of sex offenders NOW going to be made available to law enforcement officers! So, pardon me, who had access to this list before? I mean seriously? I was actually hoping that the list of charged offenders was now going to be made available to the public (although I was unclear about the legal ramifications for it), but to announce that law enforcement officers going to have access to it begs the questions why didn’t they have it all along? You mean police working in communities and don’t know who and whom have prior records????? What that story isn’t saying is far too disturbing.

I see Marabella residents have Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan on blast. I find that protest reeks of a political performance…all they missing is black costumes, white face and a tableaux vivant! It’s worth noting that some of the “angry residents” yesterday are actually friends of people at the San Fernando regional corporation…and if you didn’t know, there is tension between Mayor Marlene and MP Carolyn….make of that what you will…more than the pestle in the mortar with this one!

Our Glib COP, Dwayne, has assured areas with high criminal activity that more patrols will be replacing police posts…. Now it have two bacchanal with that….last night on the news Sgt Wayne MyStar, in giving his daily briefing, was pointing out how much ammunition and guns had been seized to date despite the LACK OF POLICE VEHICLES….so, I guess is foot patrols Gibbs referring to? And the second bacchanal is this….why weren’t the mobile units IMMEDIATELY replaced with patrols? Why remove one and not implement the other? Why the lull? Why the windows of opportunity for criminals to operate in? Is this the Crime Plan????
Why does 21st Century Policing have me so uneasy?????

Don Quixote Volney stands by his comments….he says the media too slack…and he have all the information at hand to make the claims he making…..Kamla, all yuh really know how to pick them, oui!

After grandcharging, Sat relents and allows Sita back at the school…. Ironically, head of the PTA, Mootoo, complaining that no one thinking of the children. And you have to stop and ask yourself…if there is a court order, that has blocked the transfer and basically means Sita has to remain as principal of the school for now…who being more foolish and obstructionist? Not the Maha Sabha Education Board? Who going to the media with press releases everytime? Sita or Sat? I am wondering if the two main men on this board even see how dumb they look everytime they decide to buck the legal system? Why does Sat think the laws don’t apply to him? What he partners Devant and Tim have to say on this boy? Or are they in support of his behaviour?

Aaliyah Johnson’s killer has been charged and spent the night in Golden Grove…..this story tragic from beginning to end. There is nothing to feel triumphant about in having caught her killer.

The Dangerous Dogs Act going to be enforced…12 years later….I should have hope then, that Verna will actually table the Children’s Bill by 2015!

Roget has struck another blow for the TCL Strike….no extra time for lawmen on the TCL purse. This of course means increased tensions at the strike site. And if you haven’t been paying attention, this strike is affecting not just the local construction industry, but the region as well. A little bit again and Roget going to have this Govt by the balls. And if those strikers succeed in getting what they want, it’ll be a might blow to this govt. Don’t watch this strike slight at all. Two things likely to happen here…..a further crippling of the PP Govt….and the making of Roget into a messiah figure…keep an eye on it.

Keep an eye too on all the petty crimes that are occurring….pensioners being beaten to death for $3000.00. Fashion designers being robbed of small amounts of cash and electronic items for a quick sale on the black market. The petty crime toll is edging back up…but no one announces that in the paper…is just who feels it knows it. So, those of us whose cars will be stolen, cell phones, laptops, handbags, will wonder where is the crime plan? Where’s the 21st Century Policing? How is it helping us….and then when we turn around and realise gang warfare still rampant as ever, only weed getting seized, but never any cocaine…..and no white collar criminal is ever held accountable we will become more and more depressed, more and more frustrated, more and more fed up of watching Kamla and her Family Values team gorge themselves on the public purse.

Crime Clusterf@$k/Political Pantomime 22mts, 18dys: PR Spinning out of Control

The Star Players in the Pantomime today: Minister of Works, Jack Warner; fmr UNC Leader, Basdeo Panday and CAL's Head Flight Attendant, Kamlarani. Photo courtesy Trinidad and Tobago News website.

I am absolutely convinced that the Govt’s PR team setting them up for a fall. Have you been hearing the radio ads of the last two days? There is an ad fashioned to sound like a news bulletin letting the country know that massive road programmes are scheduled to begin soon….3000 jobs will be created.
About a month ago, when the Marlene Coudray issue became a hot button topic the PM waved 2 beakers of oil, announced that God was a Trini, better times were ahead, things were turning around. Within 24 hours of that manufactured oil find….(Yes, Gillette, we know it manufactured…and we know it pissing you off that we know and figured it out….)…Energy and economic  experts thoroughly trashed the idea of the “oil find” having any sort of real impact. That got deflated fast.

Now, in light of the ongoing TCL Strike, Mayorgate (Marlene aint going nowhere), St Ann’sGate and regular concerns about the PM’s spending sprees and government nepotism….we have road jobs to look forward to.

Who them tactics remind you of? I mean seriously, Jack and Kamla, 3000 jobs to help build highways supposed to make us feel relieved after 3 years of economic stagnancy? And this week there was a story about low natural gas prices…..all yuh goose cooked!

And the best your PR team can come up with is to make ads that sound like faux news reports….to add legitimacy, nah?

And as for St Ann’sGate, aka Miller Time, well this thing just getting stickier and stickier….even the Judge saying her looking at process and procedure, ‘Kokaram said: “The wider issue I am interested in: is what does an employer do when an employee has a mental breakdown in the workplace?”’ BOOOM!
So all this bending over backwards to reveal Miller’s diagnosis, Fuad, and you Verna, telling the media she is unwell….that’s just poor form. The thing you guys should have done since last Friday when it was revealed that Miller was detained under Section 15 of the MHA, was to begin to discreetly negotiate and settle with Miller. What was perpetrated on Miller, the stealthy abduction and admission into a government facility, complete with the admission of drugs and bad procedure is the stuff of psychological thrillers and nightmares. You’ve soiled your hands good and proper here. And regardless of what is said about Miller after this, the country is always going to remember your government, as the one in charge when this crime was perpetrated against a public servant. Your constant cries that Manning is a Dictator (and mind you, it’s The Keith at the helm now, eh) ring hollow, because this act, that the world tends to associate with Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany and Taliban Afghanistan happened under your watch….and its your ministers and your government that’s trying to effect a cover up on what can only be described…from all angles…as an extreme violation of human rights….no one going to remember the just-as-culpable Perm Secs….just Fuad, Verna and your deafening silence.

Road works can’t make that go away!

I wondering too if the PNM and all lost its way with its PR and spin….PNM Abroad spends a lot of time bussing files via FB. For the most part you can depend on the video clips and newspaper links they post to give information or even another side to a story…but of late their tone has shifted from simple PR and propaganda to gossip….and don’t make the mistake of pointing this out to them…then you get told if you aint like it, then lay down side it.

ME: I wish your posts were generally more mature and responsible. Often you spund [sic] like a gossip column in a rag newspaper instead of a source of solid info…when Anil going to cross the floor again? I waiting on the official announcement 3 weeks now.

PNM Abroad: We don’t have to repeat our TRACK RECORD our loyal members know it. We have NO INTENTION of changing the format. It has served us well for the last 2 years and 10 months and the FACTS have always fallen in our favour. I guess it just redbuds back to excellent political analysis.

ME: …my issue is responsibility in information dissemination. Yes this is a pro party group, but its approach likely to turn off the very people it should be trying to attract. And your report on the helicopters aint new. Daily ppl call in radio stations with sightings, so this is no scoop. Try and work on determining a standard.

PNM Abroad: Its simple-if people do not like what we say or how we put it- just either leave or don’t come on site. We don’t force anybody here. In fact however, we know very well our members tastes,we know their demographics,we know our phenomenal growth rate, our reach, and we know our track record on most issues has been exemplary. (not all-just most). We are not about to worry about fighting anyone.

The comments from other posters were deleted because they were irrelevant to this thread, but really, is this the position that PNM  wants out there? We doing we thing, and it working for our demographic and we sticking to it! So what about the people who fall out of your demographic that you might want to attract? Narrow approach much? Considering the drubbing the party’s image received in the 2010 election is this really the route you wish to go?

I see Prakash Ramadhar getting hot and sweaty ForCop these days…meetings after meetings and nothing about Mayorgate cyah resolve. Ramadhar insisting that the main issue is the San Fernando Mayorship issue, the PM saying otherwise and in the middle of talks she have to buss out to ketch ah plane! I hear Vidwattie stay home on this trip…So who attending to the PM’s Special Needs? Nobody? The Needs disappear? Or they on hold until we stop paying attention????

Activist Wayne Kublalsingh and Mon Desir residents put down a nice piece of protest on the EMA yesterday. Activists and villagers picketed the EMA office in order to get CEC’s that will determine whether or not the highway carded to pass through Mon Desir has actually gottten approval.

No lawyer wants to defend the taxi driver who formed the paedophile ring in Claxton Bay.

Volney the Sour Care Bear under fire for his loose cannon comments yesterday.

Deputy Police Commissioners who resemble Sandy, not Gibbs and Ewatski, were sent into Mt D’Or to have peace talks with residents….this govt jokey for truth, oui….one minute they bawling for ethnic parity and then when it suits them they use ethnicity as part of their crime plan….speaking of Crime Plan, we up to 107 murders for the year, last year was 117 (so thank God for that SoE, it was a real success), what is really the Crime Plan besides the Crop Duster????

Is Friday folks, and I have to tell you I didn’t believe St Ann’sGate woulda still been the lead story given the speed of our news cycles. But the state attacking a public servant was always going to be a huge issue.

I will leave you with a quote from meh boy….the one and only De Bas!

Crime Clusterf@$k/ Political Pantomime 22mts, 6dys: 7 Pillars of Fuel Finds!

Before I hit vex  mode, let me greet my Spiritual Baptist Friends and Family this morning and ring a loud bell!

The PM in African garb in Parliament, in 2010, promising to deal with squatters....whatever happened to all those promises. Photo courtesy Newsday's website.

I can’t tell all yuh the last time I see a PM so relieved to be able to say her govt find oil! If I didn’t know better, I’d say Kamla led the exploration effort herself. In that press conference yesterday all she aint do is ring ah bell for freedom and justice and pure happiness!

For a PM leading a government that promised to diversify the national economy,  (because in in May 2010 she said, continuing the focus on our critical need for economic planning and development, our dependence on oil and gas and the unhealthy imbalance this has created makes our economy very fragile) her giddiness over the the Jubilee Discovery has me wondering what, prior to that fuel find, was Kamla and Dookeran (remember him? the finance minister?) planning to do about the current economic stagnancy that the country is experiencing?

Rumour has it that yet another business is closing down in Trinidad….a clothing giant….you can find their outlets all over Trinidad. I wonder how this oil find going to assist these workers who find themselves on the breadline now.

So, Kamla’s Giddy Gladness over the fuel find…the God is ah Trini comment had me trying to remember what she said in 2010 about what this government had in store for this country….Anybody remember the 7 Pillars of Development that this government claimed was their NEW POLITICS and new style of governance? the PM announced no squandermania….so Toppin, Vidwattie Newton, Gibb’s Crop Duster rental….what are these???? Investments?

The cover of the PP's 2010 Manifesto that houses it's 7 Pillars of Development.

Let’s look at them briefly and you think about whether or not you the Govt doing anything it promised to do.

Kamla gave a speech  May 14th, 2010, and began her speech, in much the way all speeches by her govt are begun 2 years later….blaming the PNM. Here are some of her opening words: “

The PNM has governed this nation for nearly 40 years since 1956. And their model of governance is now outmoded and outdated.  It is ill-suited to confront the myriad challenges that now threaten the very foundation of our economy and way of life.

The oil and gas based economic model of development is now on shaky ground. The recent volatility in the markets and consequential strong fluctuations has revealed the vulnerability of our economy. This lopsided approach to economic development is fundamentally flawed and is in urgent need of revision.

So, according to the then Opposition Leader, soon-to-be-PNM, we needed to move away from a fuel-based economy because it is a lopsided approach to economic development!

Later down in the speech Kamla says: The PNM has governed this nation for nearly 40 years since 1956. And their

model of governance is now outmoded and outdated. It is ill-suited to confront the myriad challenges that now threaten the

very foundation of our economy and way of life. The oil and gas based economic model of development is now on shaky ground.

The recent volatility in the markets and consequential strong fluctuations has revealed the vulnerability of our economy. This lopsided approach to economic development is fundamentally flawed and is in urgent need of revision.

After bashing the spending habits of the PNM, and rightly pointing out that tall buildings don’t necessarily reflect development KPB then promised to look at the following areas:

  • a quality education that is relevant to the needs of the 21st century
  •  a safe society based on law and order where people do not have to live in fear of criminals but can enjoy the fruits of their hard work and sacrifice
  • good healthcare , with a dedicated focus on the elderly and children
  • a proper network of roads that minimizes the amount of time needlessly spent in traffic
  •  and basic amenities such as electricity and water

We aint reach the 7 pillars yet, eh….we aint start to touch them yet….now study your head good and of those 5 areas that improvements were promised how many areas have been even touched?

Now for the 7 Pillars…and all yuh read the words in italics well because these are Kamla’s words, not mine:

  1. People Centred Development : after the fuel find yesterday, the PM immediately started talking about how this will improve the life of the man in the street. How has public funds been used to help the man in the street? Currently it helps the PM’s Family, Friends, Cronies…..not the man in the street…it’s not likely to change. Maybe this is what was meant by people centred development…I’ll look after my people! Kamla says: We intend to create a knowledge-driven, technologically proficient society that will be the core and engine for a competitive and sustainable economy. Our manifesto will build a new society from the bottom up because we have seen the damage inflicted by the PNM’s top-to-bottom approach to economic development.
  2. Poverty eradication and Social Justice: I don’t know that I even need to say anything in this area. The Trinidad Guardian is doing a report on poverty in Trinidad these days. It’s 2 years into their governance and the Government can’t even seem to table the Children’s Bill.  Glen Ramadharsingh’s Ministry of the People (what on earth is that) seems to only plan weddings or hand out hampers. There is poverty in Trinidad and Tobago, regardless of ethnicity and there is no social justice…or movements for it! Kamla says in her speech: Our plans and policies therefore aim to better the quality of life and raise the standard of living for all. They aim to reduce poverty and crime and deliver services to the people in an efficient and professional mannerwe will create a Ministry of the People that will be dedicated to ensuring a free flow of government services to the people. Most services should, for example, be accessible on-line, from the comfort of your own home.
  3. National and Personal Security: Kamla says: There is also no point in creating economic wealth if people are afraid and unable to enjoy it. The terrifying crime crisis that has engulfed our nation has virtually prevented citizens from enjoying the fruits of their labour. We shall overhaul the criminal justice system to make it efficient and effective. This will be a major deterrent and weapon in the fight against crime. Criminals must respect the law. I would like to see a trial finish within 3-6 months of a person being charged so that criminals cannot make a mockery of our justice system and law-abiding citizens can feel the system is working. In light of this Kamla created the Minister of Justice. What has Herbert Volney done with his term in office thus far?
  4. Information and Communication Technologies: KPB says :Affordable internet access for every citizen will be a priority as we seek to create an educated society that is poised to compete with the rest of the world in the 21st century. IT will be infused into every sector of our economy. We will thus encourage and develop strong linkages among our creative sectors, technological sectors, design sectors and our education and academic sectors. In light of the fact that TSTT can’t even get it’s 2G data service to blackberry phones under control, I am really not holding my breath on ever seeing this pillar erected, much less coming to fruition.
  5. More Diversified Knowledge Intensive Economy……i laughing folks…. because KPB said back then: We have immense untapped potential in agriculture and we intend to place the accent on food production and food security. We should be aiming to export food, instead of importing it! …our Industrial Policy will identify the areas into which we will diversify the Economy including : knowledge based Industries, Cultural and Entertainment Industries, Ethnic Products, Food Processing, the Maritime Industry, Services Industries, biotechnology, information technology, high-tech manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food production, processing and alternative energy and third and fourth generation renewable energy industries. The diversification of our economy for sustainable development will be a top priority of the People’s Partnership government. Tobago’s economy will be given special treatment because the fundamentals are different. A major initiative will however, be the regularization of land titles for Tobagonians so that they can own their land and gain individual economic independence.
  6. People Participation in GovernmentWe aim to be a user-friendly, responsible and responsive government. We believe the government must not be aloof and removed from the people, but rather, part of the people, reflecting the will and consciousness of the people. To this end, we will promote a climate of national dialogue within a framework of civility and consensus building. We will initiate a process of consultation to rewrite the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago...This will move us away from the culture of maximum leadership and develop a politics of inclusion rather than the present system of winner takes all. Some of the revolutionary ideas we propose to introduce are: ·       A right of recall for non-performing parliamentary representatives ·       Fixed election dates for national and local elections ·       Mechanisms for a referendum process ·       Limiting the Prime Minister to two successive terms as head of  Government ·       Rules governing the conduct of the Government and political parties during an election period. ·       A stronger Integrity Commission ·       Local government reform
  7. A Strong Foreign Policy: back then KPB said: … our voice must be heard as part of a wider Peoples Partnership that is based on mutual interests and objectives to advance common cause. We see the international arena and the world system as an opportunity to build diplomatic partnerships that can lead to trade and cultural exchanges. I wonder how much of her current international travel is fulfilling this.

As you pondering where them 7 pillars are, where they going to be, and if is Grecian or Roman in style….remember that Moonilal just yesterday self in under the protection of Parliament, accused a former HDC head of abusing the Govt Credit card. Now Noel Garcia has responded asking Moonilal for the credit card records. Is either Moonilal uses his privilege in Parliament to lie…or he is the most misinformed Leader of Government business ever and misspeaking, misquoting and general misinformation is the only way he knows to operate. The PM needs to do something about Moonilal. This is the same man who told us that a concrete bunker of  diesel and cache of guns was under Beetham….he’s also the man that told us the government had bought a plane for surveillance to find  squatters…and then it turned out Dwayne Gibbs had rented a crop duster….anybody remember Gibbs and the plane? Remember it was being probed?  Remember Anand was supposed to get a report on it…and he did…what every happened to that issue? because Gibbs still here…where the plane? Where the $.9m.

We still waiting to hear whether or not COP getting to appoint a new San Fernando mayor….

Anyhow, why I hotting up my head.

We Find oil!

We cyah escape them Petrotrin ads for the next week.

All we problems solved…ent Kamla?  You even sure when the country will start to experience the benefits of the find? Blue skies ahead, right?

Because God is ah Trini…ent!
