How Kamla Hang She Own Jack

Well I finally stop celebrating the TOP defeat in Tobago and will be nice and point out to Kamla, for her own benefit, how she hang she own Jack at this lovely game of Elections All Fours that she just fogged up royally.

There are many who will tell you that many Tobagonians were royally upset with London’s PNM over the last 12 years. And this was not a lie. Orville London spent 12 years coping with the arrogance and asininity of Patrick Manning and then the bungling incompetence of the PP. During his tenure he had to cope with Manning’s myopic vision for Tobago that saw adequate monies being pumped into the island to cover recurring expenditure, but very little being allocated to proper development of the island. In 2009 and he managed to hang on to the THA, but the TOP, a young and vibrant party was making inroads. Then came the 2010 elections in which Tobagonians delivered their own referendum on Manning and his treatment of them. Tobago went yellow. And from May 2010 to January 20th 2013, Orville London began the most strategic fight back I have ever witnessed.

But this coloumn isn’t about London’s fightback, but rather about Kamla’s defeat. Given the tide London was swimming against and the landslide victory that Kamla achieved in 2010 one would think that she would have used good judgment and not squander that goodwill with the electorate, right?

Yesterday’s THA should have been a referendum of Orville London’s performance as THA Chief Secretary in the last 12 years, instead, through the cleverness of London and the crass vulgarity of Kamla and her minions it became an assessment not of London’s performance in the THA but of Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s performance from May 2010 to last week.

This Election should have been about Jack vs London, but it quickly became about Orville vs Kamla…..and like this woman don’t learn! No Trini could ever come and beat a Tobagonian in he back yard.

Kamla launched her THA offensive at Budget Matihkor..aka the pre-Budget Rally….and I was the first, and probably the only person to note the type of language Kamla used to describe the ensuing THA campaign. Both Kamla and Anand boasted loudly on the stage at Mid-Centre of how they would win the THA Elections and send Rowley and London in a corner. That was misstep number 1. Yuh campaigning in Tobago and not Trinidad, how yuh go insult and attack two sons of the soil that lift Tobagonians nose so high?

At that same meeting Persad-Bissessar started her own subtle race talk with her “We know who the enemy is…get in yuh section” talk as she referenced the THA campaign to come. While Trinis aint see nothing wrong with that kind of We vs Them talk…Tobagonians know it and understand it only too well and we don’t stick it! That was misstep number 2. And I pointed it out. But the Kamlarites so busy calling me a racist PNM sodomite they never read between the lines.

Thereafter though there was a change in the TOP’s approach. Realising that Tobagonians weren’t taking too kindly to the numerous missteps and corruption allegations from Central Government, Ashworth Jack himself issued a warning…no UNC interference in the THA campaign. Jack wanted discreet behind-the-scenes assistance by way of money and resources. The TOP hoped that the Milshirv accusations, just like the Calder Hart accusations against Manning, would stick to Orville like shit on a shoe heel. Unfortunately both the Chief Secretary and his Finance Secretary Anselm London much savvier than that. They understood that what threw Manning down was his unwillingness to come clean on his relationship with Calder Hart, Juliana Pena, UDECOTT and the Guanapo Church. Manning’s position was both arrogant and unhelpful and it only riled the citizenry up more….which is why I insist he was a fool. London & London on the other hand utilised transparency and accountability to their benefit. A full file was uploaded to the world wide web, as well as sent to the Integrity Commission. Answer that! Not a peep could be heard from government for weeks after the upload. And the most they have managed thus far is a limp legal action from && that the treasury going to have to pay for.

TOP’s gamble that Milshirv would haunt Orville the way Calder Hart haunted Manning died a sudden death.

Then came the House That Pumpkin Built……and I had to grin each and every time Jack lied or avoided questions. Transparency and accountability was coming to haunt his ass now. Milshirv began to fade quickly as Ashworth’s relationship with the UNC and its financiers because the front burner issue….then Jack’s failure to lodge documents with the Integrity Commission. And here was the next misstep. Jack was making Tobago and Tobagonians look corrupt. Jack….really… from Tobago how long and you don’t know that corruption associated with Trickydadians, not Tobagonians? Yuh fall down bad boy!
You see, London had managed to dampen, if not totally remove the stench of corruption around himself, while Jack was refusing to answer any questions.

To deal with his declining public image Ashworth Jack made his next misstep….one that would be so critical and crucial to his demise, I wonder if the TOP and UNC figure it out yet….Ashworth Jack resorted to social media handled by a Trini….and not just any Trini, but a Trini whose entire idea of marketing and media is fete. Soon the TOP had a social media presence on FaceBook and Twitter and the pages were filled with Trinidad UNC supporters…and thereafter it only went downhill. There were pictures of Jack working in a garden and alluding to his supplies as being the basis of his wealth. Meanwhile Express’s Irene Medina was doing her research and hitting Jack for six week after week. Kamla et al, sensing the shifting tide made the next crucial misstep by jumping into the fray.

Their hope was to show that Central Government….the moneyhandlers….were entirely behind Jack and that if Tobago wanted to develop and prosper they had to follow the money trail.

Could they be any more dumbass? Kamla…darling….Tobagonian know underdevelopment and hardship long time you know….Trinidad suffering Tobago aint nothing new.

And so, interference from the UNC went from peripheral to central! The Elections moved from being about Orville’s performance to the invasion from the UNC. And Kamla, unwittingly became her own worst enemy.

Tobago was flooded with a sea of yellow. Trinidadians all over the place being their arrogant, flashy selves. Money, in a society that admires thrift and frugality and pulling up one’s own bootstraps, was being thrown around wildly. Tobagonians looked on and realised just why Trinidad so effed up. They watched the queen parade herself. Helicopters flying in daily; trucks being ferried over with goodies…goodies that Tobagonians had been denied for the last 32 months unless they were openly TOP….and a flurry of activity to pretend as if development was taking place.

And in all this all Tobagonians wanted was a revised Constitution that gave them their promised autonomy. No music trucks, no food cards, no wild promises. Just a sober Bill that delivered what they wanted.

But Kamla, unable to keep the smallest of promises instead went over with a half-assed Bill that she rushed to Parliament and continued the orgy of money spending….SQUANDERMANIA Kamla style…..and Tobagonians looked.

In fact, they did one better and donned the yellow T-shirts, mounted the music trucks, accepted the handouts and then yesterday voted PNM.

They voted the PNM to let Kamla know that you cyah come over here with sniffer dogs in a church where you get invited to and insult people’s hospitality. You cyah spend 32 months attacking black people in overt and subtle ways and then get more vex than we over Hilton Sandy comment. We would punish Sandy, but you cyah have Sat telling we how to punish Sandy. You cyah want to come and run things in Tobago house.

Not a Seat for Them!

Not a Seat for Them!

Kamla had only to look at how Rowley played his role in the PNM’s campaign to take a cue. Instead she surrounded herself with a team of dunce, clueless advisors who believe that a Trinidadian approach to life and campaigning is what would work in Tobago and put her Jack out to dry!

We Didnt Vote Full Dotish!

Tobago Yuh Lift Meh Nose, Yuh Make Meh Proud!

  1. I do not understand why Mr. London is concerned about not having an Opposition in the THA. Isn’t the PNM the official Opposition in the national politics of Trinidad and Tobago? The PNM’s clean-sweep result in the THA election simply means that the PNM has become a stronger Opposition party. What more can Mr. Rowley and Mr. London ask for?

    • cayakeet, Rowley was the first to raise this issue and do remember he represents the Opposition in Trinidad. TOP was the opposition in Tobago and the Minority group. London said that discussion is always a good thing when you have an opposition and now that none exists in the THA people’s expectations are so high, meaning that failure (disappointment) is not an option.
Historically, many governments crack by mid-term without an opposition because they believe they know it all and railroad through their plans with no consultation. I do not believe that will be the case wtih the THA and an added plus, they’ve got young, new people and a brand new beautiful surrogate as Deputy. I am looking forward to THA’s new plans.

  2. i understand his statement well, no opposition to absolute governance is ingredients for corruption, think he want someone to keep checks and balances

  3. Don’t forget the gross insult of the PP telling Tobago they will get freedom with the THA Bill if they vote for TOP-as if they weren’t born free human beings! Such rubbish!!

  4. Well written again. We ‘Bago family really make me proud. Again! – Shadow, Josanne Lucas, Robinson working with “de Trini Indian party” to give our nation its first PM of Indian descent. Thank You Very Much Tobago – ah like a proud people, who eh afraid to be humble!
And while we celebrating Tobago, ah must expose mih bias lil more – I heard one station playing Shadow’s “Bassman” yesterday, my favorites (being biased towards secular humanism – terms from the North I know!) are “I believe” and “Everybody is Somebody”, musically, “Dingolay” is top of the heap. Shadow is a wonder of what Caribbean people can be – his poet, philosopher, music-man, and he only went to primary school – such understanding of life and his society. So as we celebrating Tobago, celebrate with Shadow Yes he gave us “snake in de balisier”, but ah happy to see de balisier beating snake now!

    • Time will tell if the PNM has changed its way and learned its lesson. As a party that I only began paying attention to at the turn of the twenty first century, I didn’t have much respect or liking for them under Manning. I found Manning to be arrogant and silly in a dangerous way. And the party paid for it.
Rowley as an individual I have always liked, and Orville as well. My Tobagonian bias will show here because I find my mother’s people to be eminently more sensible than my father’s in a general Trinidadian reference sense. I find Trinis fickle when it comes to values and principles. A smart man could Tief their head….Tobagonians more suspicious in my experience.
How London and Rowley handle this PNM landslide will say a lot about their calibre as leaders, so I think this turn of events gives us the perfect opportunity to see if they are capable of a different PNM….for now, I withhold judgement and observing.
As per the UNC, I don’t know how this party has strayed so far from what men like Sudama tried to do.

      • Yeah, I’ve noticed that sensibility and querying look more from my father’s folks since my return which frankly I never paid much attention to before. There is a very clear divide in values and a belief in what’s important in life. That firmness and pride in being Tobagonians was evident during the THA inauguration this morning. They could teach Trinis a thing a three.
Rowley received a resounding welcome this morning and poor ole Kamla looked like a sourpuss. Rowley’s smart, intelligent, savvy and cagey, loves to send messages via his and his family’s attire. I wonder how many get them.
Met an 87-year old 3 years ago in whose house in Brooklyn Orville London used to spend a lot of time while studying, washing his car etc. She said he was sincere, honest, firm and upstanding and never forgets those who helped him. That didn’t jibe with the embattled and seemingly recalcitrant politico I observed in the past 2 years but now I got the whole story.

  5. Great great analysts of what went down. When I saw all these things coming into the island I told a high ranking TOP person boy tell ASHWORTH keep away from them people it will cost him.I am a PNM but we had a hard fight if TOP went alone but he did not hear so he will feel. Now we are not racist as some people believe once you live in TOBAGO you will see that we were raised a certain way of MORALS and RESPECT and once you give away one you will of failed as a person.THIS is a QUOTE i was thought “Nobody gives you anything for free” and like you said this was what people saw.

  6. Brilliant! I couldn’t have said it better and I learnt the background from the Manning years too since my return. Good on you Pantomine now am a fan for life :))

    • No, it was a combination of TOP/UNC not understanding the culture and ethos of the space and insulting and undermining the voter base….where in this piece do you see references to Tobagonians making decisions based on what people look like?
Is Ashworth Jack or any of his candidates Afro-descended? So how on earth could Tobagonians have voted based on race when all the candidates have the same features?

      • I admire how Tobagonians stand for truth and justice and cannot be bought with silly promises. I am a Trinidadian and I believe that the average Trinidadian always has something up his or her sleve. I try to live in such a way so as to show that there are still honest, caring and giving Trinidadians out there. So please don’t judge all of us. There are some that are keeping the flag of honesty flying high. It would be nice if we as Trinidadians could display the kind of unity Tobago displayed, but it will not happen because greed, flashy presentations and handouts is what my fellow Trinidadians love. Make it look good and they fall for it.

  7. @ John Henry. In reference to the concern Mr. London raised indicating that there is no Opposition. The THA while under the Central Government is also it’s own local government with the Minority Leader (the party with second highest seats out of the twelve) acting as the Opposition.

There are two things in play here, PNM became a stronger Opposition Party in national politics but became the Majority Party in Tobago (with no official opposition)

  8. Good article. I have noticed a change is Rowley. I had always liked him even when he was marginalized. He was a good Member of Parliament but of late he is chosing when to speak and when not to speak. For example on the Kurta/ Nagar thing he said nothing. Jack Warner has to learn that silence is golden.
Also by their pejorative and effluence filled ejaculatons, the PP has alienated the Tobago voters. Do they really expect to return to them in the 2016 elections? Was it not the same voters who voted Baker and Toppin in the last General Elections? Was it race then? What about the constituencies that are predominantly East Indian where opposing parties offer someone else of another race and the person of East Indian decent is elected, is that race also?
This race talk is diatribe. As Wendy Fitzwilliams said when she won Miss Universe, “Let our differences delight us”.

  9. The tumult and the showting has died and things seem to be slowly coming back to normal in Tobago especially where the latest THA elections were concerned.

As much as the PNM gained all the seats, I wish to point out that it was not for the voting public that the all out win became manifest. The voters were mere channels that Jehovah used to accomplish what he design for Tobago. It is quite apparent that he desired to confound the Trinidad and Tobago powers with his might and power.

The PNM THA win has not astounded only PNM in Tobago but also the PNM in Trinidad, the TOP in Tobago and the TOP’s erstwhile benefactors, the PP/UNC/COP coalition Government and Trinidad and Tobago as a whole. Many people, up to this point in time, remain astonished at what transpired.

Let us review some of what really took place:-

    1) The PP/UNC/COP benefactors and supporters of the TOP came to Tobago in droves (by Boatloads. Does that remind of anything? ….Huh!) bearing yellow and green trinkets of every form and fashions. From panties, to skirts, to cellphones, to bandanas to jersies to wing mirror covers, etc., all with the aim of confuffling the minds of Tobagonians. They are a sad reminder of Christopher Columbus and the Caribs and Arawaks. Fool the natives with trinkets, colourful beads and baubles and conquer them. What an effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2) The PP/UNC/COP support system rolled in with there war wagons (Big Trucks) and Big Boys – creme de la creme to shore up a tottering Samman (TOP) Tree.

    3) They PP/UNC/COP made many and spurious promises to Tobago even to the point of running to Parliament with a mamaguay Bill for Internal Self Government for Tobago. They even promise to meet with the Assembly should TOP win the elections. (But wasn’t this the PNM THA had been advocating since the Kamla Persad came into power in 2010). Could you believe the audacity and veracity of this group for whom lies have no boundaries. The sea has boundaries but their lies have none.

    4) The PP/UNC/COP used every form of media at their disposal to malign Orville London and the PNM. They even used innocent children in their dastardly display of rank stupidity.

    5) The Prime Minister went beyond bounds to tell the public in Tobago that Ashworth Jack was the “Arch Angel Gabriel” of Tobago (blasphemies against the Creatorof Heaven and Earth) coming to save the island from Orville London and the PNM. (Whew!!!! what a sad state of affairs.

    6) When water seem to have covered their flour completely and things look like they are falling apart, two week before he polls a Government Big Wigs meeting was called at the Coco Coco Reef Hotel to ask Ashworth Jack to step down in favour of another TOP candidate, Anslem Richards, whom they proffered would be more astute as Chief Secretary in the THA. He is a highly qualified and suitably appealing – politicswise – individual to Ashworth Jack who has or holds nothing. Well as was expected, with the taste of power in his mouth, Ashworth vehemently declined.

    7) Shango Baptist Bush Baths – cum – Spin Around – cum – Spit In Your Face Three Times were the order of the day for TOP representatives. Obeah galore!. Big people in the TOP standing naket in the noonday sun being bathe and anointed. And much more. Too numerous to mention here and now.

How hard it is for us to recognise most of the times our failures in life has to do with our failure to acknowledge Jehovah, giving him the Praise and Glory for all things.

If the Prime Minister and her cohorts do not know the Creator, then someone should tell them that by going and sitting in a Church in Plymouth cannot mamaguay God.

And then those socalled christian denominational Pastors and Preachers (Pastor Cuffy take note) who write all kinds of nice things about you cannot bring you any closer to Jehovah. The persons who do these things themselves do not know God. They are shepherds fooling the sheep so they can “Eat Ah Food”.They turn an blind eye to what is happening in the land so to be in the good graces of the “Give Ah Food” gang. They look at bad governance and call it good governance. But God is not mocked.

Those who are knowledgable, will recognine that the trouncing of the TOP, and by extension the PP/UNC/COP, was the “Writing On The Wall” (Look at the Bible Book Daniel – 5: 25, 26) Kamla, “Jehovah has numbered the days of your reigh and brought ithem to and end…………………….
And may I say this, the failure of TOP to gain a single seat in the THA Election is only the beginning of the collapse of Kamla’s kingdom and it will fall with such a crash that it would have the population wondering. Secondly, The PP/UNC/COP rolled into Tobago whith their chariots and horse men apparently hoping to scare people who were not of their persuasion into doing what they would otherwise wish them to do. But again, “The fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom. (See Bible Book 2Kings – 6: 15 – 17……….Elisha speaking to his servant told him ” Don’t be afraid”. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them”

And all the while, in the face of redicule and maligning, Orville London was “Looking up to the Hills from where his help comes – from the Creator of Heaven and Earth”.

So my people let us give God the Praise for what he has done and he still is about to do. The PP/UNC/COP is preparing for battle in the Local Government Elections. That is a lost cause. If they survive long enough to reach another General Election, that too is a lost cause. Note what I said earlier.
“The Hand Writing is on the Wall”

Remember, don’t take Jehovah for a fool. “Take him at his Word”

  10. My mother was a PNM-ite of the early sixties. I was wow-ed watching her dance when Dr. Williams came to the village of P/vier. A few years later when I first voted, I did for PNM, Even as an ex-pat I am and will always be a “woman in red.” My Mother would have turned in her grave; no better, crawled out of it, had Kamla and her Jacks held Tobagonians hostage. I try never to play the race-card game, but it is evident that many are doing so. Trinidad and Tobago belongs to “every creed and race” not to those who abuse.
Hats off to THA, Orville and those who stood their grounds and held on to principles that were grounded in them by our fore-parents..
