Tassa Men in Sync

Trinidad is such a weird space. In the midst of seeming less and less tolerant in terms of ethnic relations, you can have a tassa band and tadjah sit in the middle of the Old Southern Main Road, Curepe. The tassa players and tadjah spilled out onto the main road and cars and maxi taxis simply negotiated their way around the players. Others, like me, pulled aside and took in the rhythm.
It didn’t make me feel better about our state of ethnic affairs in Trinidad. It just reminded me that there is so much more we could be fighting for and about here that could make us great.
